Iron Brothers Metal Buildings: Ground Work & Slabs
Features
Truck-Ready Delivery Route
A firm route from your gate to the pad that a loaded truck can drive in on and get back out of, built up with base wherever the ground is soft.
Staging Area for Unloading
Iron Brothers unloads on site, so we grade a level, dry spot beside the pad — close enough for your erector, clear of the slab.
Gate and Turnaround
We check the gate opening and the turn in from the road, and grade a turnaround near the pad so the driver isn't backing down a long drive.
Residential-Grade Pad
Barndominiums and metal homes are houses. The footprint is cleared to the roots, built to your engineer's elevation, and compacted to residential standards.
Utilities and Slab Plumbing Planned First
Trench routes and the under-slab plumbing rough-in are settled before the pad is finished, so nothing gets cut through after the pour.
Slab Poured by Dura
We pour the slab to your foundation design, so the pad and the concrete come from the same local crew — or we hand a finished pad to your concrete contractor.
Who Iron Brothers Is, and What It Leaves to You
Iron Brothers Metals — also known as Iron Brothers Metal Buildings & Steel Supply — is a Huntsville manufacturer with a 14-acre plant at 233 FM 2821 Rd E. It formed in March 2020 when Silvis Steel and Anchor Metal Buildings combined, and it makes its own purlins, panels, and trim, selling to contractors and homeowners alike.
On custom buildings, Iron Brothers does the design, engineering, detailing, delivery, and unloading. What it doesn't advertise is site work or putting the building up; for that, it points homeowners to its own network of preferred contractors. The ground, the pad, and the slab are left to you and whoever you hire. We're a Huntsville contractor that does that work. We have no arrangement with Iron Brothers — you hire us directly.
Getting Ready for Delivery Day
Because Iron Brothers delivers and unloads, their truck has to reach your site and have somewhere to set the steel down. That's where most delivery-day trouble starts. Before the date is set, we make sure of four things:
- A firm access route. The path from the road to the pad has to carry a loaded truck, so we build it up with base where it crosses soft or low ground. If you want that route to become your permanent drive, see our gravel driveway work.
- Gate width and the turn in. Check your gate and the turn off the road against what Iron Brothers tells you their truck needs. Widening a gate is easy the week before and expensive the morning of.
- A turnaround. Room to turn around near the pad, so the driver isn't backing out a long drive.
- Wet-weather access. East Texas clay can turn a dry route into a trap after one storm. We shape the route to shed water so a rain the week before doesn't push your delivery.
The staging area goes beside the pad: level, dry, and placed so the erector can reach the steel without working around fresh concrete.
Barndominiums, Metal Homes, and Shop Houses Need a House-Grade Site
Much of what Iron Brothers designs for homeowners is meant to be lived in: barndominiums, metal homes, shop houses, and guest houses, along with workshops. A home slab doesn't forgive the shortcuts a hay barn can get away with. We clear the footprint to the roots, build the pad to the elevation on your engineer's design, and compact it to residential standards — the same approach as any of our barndominium site prep jobs.
Living space also means utilities. Trench routes for power and water are planned before the pad is finished, and the under-slab rough-in is handled through our slab plumbing service so the lines are in, tested, and ready before the forms go up. Then we pour the slab, or hand a finished pad to your own concrete contractor if you have one. Most home sites also need a real driveway to the house, and we can build it in the same mobilization.
Grading around a home has to move water away on every side; our page on site preparation for metal buildings covers the general approach.
Two Huntsville Companies, One Site
Iron Brothers builds steel on FM 2821; we work dirt and concrete out of 187 FM 2628, also in Huntsville. That keeps coordination simple — delivery dates, site questions, and weather calls happen between two local outfits instead of across the state. We don't have a partnership with Iron Brothers, and the job doesn't need one: Iron Brothers and Mueller buildings make up most of the dozens of metal building sites we've prepared.
Our equipment includes John Deere 850K and Caterpillar D6N dozers, John Deere 350G and Caterpillar 320E excavators, and John Deere 333G track loaders, plus whatever else a particular site needs. Our service area covers Walker, Montgomery, Grimes, Madison, Brazos, San Jacinto, Trinity, Leon, and Polk counties. Call (936) 355-3471 to schedule a site visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Iron Brothers do the site work or pour the slab?
Not according to what Iron Brothers publishes. It designs, engineers, delivers, and unloads custom buildings, and points homeowners to preferred contractors for the rest. Confirm your scope with them, then line up the site work and slab. We handle both.
What has to be ready before Iron Brothers delivers?
A firm route a loaded truck can drive in and out on, a gate wide enough for it, room to turn around, and a dry, level staging area beside the pad. Ask Iron Brothers what their truck needs and we'll build the access to match.
Are you on Iron Brothers' preferred-contractor list?
No. We're an independent contractor and not affiliated with Iron Brothers Metals. You can hire us directly for the site and slab under any building you buy from them.
Do you pour the slab, or just build the pad?
Both. We can pour the slab to your engineer's design, or hand a finished pad to your concrete contractor if you already have one.
Can you handle the driveway and slab plumbing too?
Yes. We build driveways, and under-slab plumbing rough-in is one of our services, so it's in and ready before the pour. Doing it all in one mobilization saves a second trip and keeps the grades tied together.
